It's funny because Matt Smith, Number 11 on Dr. Who, was actually considered for the role of Sherlock during the initial casting stages.  Then again, Tenant and Cumberbatch have both had brushes with fantasy with Harry Potter (Barty Crouch, Jr.) and The Hobbit trilogy (Smaug the Sagacious and Terrifying).
